Avago Technologies expands Arcot implementation for
Google Apps and Cisco SSL VPN

Successful deployment of Arcot A-OK and ArcotID increases savings in CapEx and OpEx for multi-factor authentication in cloud computing

Sunnyvale, CA – April 20, 2010 When Avago Technologies, a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications, wanted to save more than $1.6 million annually in collaboration costs, it turned to cloud computing. To ensure that those savings didn’t come at the expense of security, Avago turned to Arcot Systems, Inc., the cloud authentication leader.

In 2008, Avago switched from platforms such as Exchange to Google Apps Premier Edition. Avago initially used only single sign-on (SSO) for authentication, but it wanted to migrate quickly to multifactor authentication to mitigate concerns about cloud-related security risks and provide additional protection for its data in the cloud.

As a result, Avago in 2008 deployed Arcot A-OK for Enterprise, which is optimized for Google Apps, and the ArcotID secure software credential solution. A-OK supports authentication for a wide variety of remote-access services, including Web portals, VPNs and Salesforce.com.

Together, Arcot A-OK and ArcotID protect Avago against numerous security threats – including phishing and man-in-the-middle attacks – but without requiring the cost and hassle of additional software and hardware, such as tokens.

Instead, Avago employees simply log in to Google Apps from any location using their existing SSO credentials, with A-OK then providing an additional, transparent layer of strong authentication.

Avago achieved additional savings because Arcot’s cloud design frees it from the capital and operating expenses of installing and managing an on-site authentication server and software.

After comparing solutions from four other vendors, Avago chose Arcot’s because it was the only one capable of working with Avago’s existing SSO infrastructure, making it the fastest and most cost-effective option for enhancing security.

The project was so successful that in early 2010, Avago expanded its use of Arcot A-OK and ArcotID to authenticate employees and partners to its existing Cisco SSL VPN platform. Now Avago employees use the same strong authentication credential to log in to Google Apps and their VPN. Avago plans to expand the use of A-OK to other VPN and Web portal applications.

“We knew that cloud computing would dramatically increase employee productivity while slashing collaboration costs, but we didn’t want security to be the tradeoff,” said Shreyas Shah, IT Director of Avago Technologies. “Arcot went a step further, providing both the multifactor authentication that we sought and an architecture that’s convenient for our employees and cost-effective for our company. For more than 18 months, A-OK proved itself as a convenient, highly effective authentication solution, making it the natural choice for expansion to our SSL VPN.”

Arcot Marketing Vice President Carol Alexander said: “Security is a major concern for enterprises as they migrate to cloud computing, but they’re equally wary of security solutions that require big investments in new hardware and software. Arcot A-OK and ArcotID balance all of those concerns by providing a cost-effective, highly secure solution that’s user-friendly for employees and IT staff alike.”
